Habit : A large sized deciduous tree.

Habitat and Distribution : Mainly along the river banks up to 1000m. Native of China. Found along the Western Ghats and Assam, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

Other relevent information : Timber used for ships building and furniture.

Field Tips : Bark smooth, usually grey, wood light red and hard.

In terminal panicles, mauve. Flowering from April-June.

Fruit :

A capsule, ellipsoid or sub globose, minutely apiculate. Seeds winged, pale brown. Fruiting from June onwards.
